Developed in close collaboration with instructors at the Unites States Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, GA, Full Spectrum Warrior was created to train the fundamentals of infantry squad fire and movement techniques in a MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) environment.

Revolutionary in the way the trainee, in the role of a squad leader, cannot fire a weapon himself, the user instead directs his virtual squad with fire and maneuver commands. Developed in cooperation with the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), the USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT), Pandemic Studios and Sony Imageworks.

Full Spectrum Warrior won the Critics’ “Best Simulation” and “Best Original Game” at the 2003 Electronic Entertainment Exposition.

Goal

Communicate principals of small-unit infantry MOUT (military operations in urban terrain) tactics.

Be compelling enough that Soldiers will play voluntarily during personal time.

Challenges

Competing needs - Must be a compelling commercial game on its own, while also meeting US Army training and simulation requirements.

Bridging cultures - Act as liason between US Army subject matter experts and civilian commercial game developer.

Solution

Designed an intuitive real-time tactical game enjoyed by Soldiers and civilians.
